The 50 most influential discs

According to The Observer

Often classifications are done on the discs (or books, or movies, or blogs …) more important or influential. But they usually limit themselves to giving a list without much ado justification. In The Observer 50 have made the list of álbumes that - according to them - changed the history of the modern music. It is a list, as all, it holds to discussion, but with the peculiarity of which they explain and reason why they consider each one to be deserving of a position.

Puncturing here you can see the list of the 50, with his corresponding explanations (in English, what goes to do to him)

It is necessary to insist that it is not a question of the list of the best discs but of the álbumes that have been more influential in the later music.

For giving “extra cost“ to this post I have arranged the list for chronological order. Here it is:

21 comments to the most influential “50 discs”

  1. Alberto A-P on On Monday, the 17th July, 2006 at 9:26 pm

It makes me happy to see that for once they put the album “Elvis Presley“ like starter of the phenomenon Elvis, and not the compilation of 70s “The Complete Sun Sessions”, which neither was finished, could not even revolutionize anything in 50s because only it existed in the shape of six singles of the most scarce distribution.

I am surprised that they set that the contribution of the Beatles a XXth century is the Sgt. Pepper's, I believe that the big contribution of the group to the pop/rock was not his music, magnificent one on the other hand, but rather the consolidation of the phenomenon fan created by Sinatra and continued by the King. I had put, then, the “Introducingthe Beatles” or “Meet The Beatles”, the first qualifications on the American market, and that supposed his explosion on the international market.

Spice Girls remains me. What contribution did girls do to the history of the this music? There were a commercial success, but of to count. They did not do anything that had not already been obtained earlier.

Where is Queen? It is not necessary to forget that they were the authors of the first video rolled specially with this end. And Janis? The icon of an epoch, more even that Hendrix.

I do not also see anything of doo-wop, not groups of girls, and for much that detests them, lack New Kids On The Block, the first boys band.

I believe that highlight has suited that I do not like this type of lists: no?

I have not wanted to give my opinion it arrives but I am going to give it now: it is missing in the list “Days of future passed” of The Moody Blues (and not for being the inspirer of the title of this blog), but for being the origin of the symphonic rock. Without this disc there would not have existed between others Genesis, Yes, Spock's Beard and I would dare to say that enclosed Coldplay.

The key disc of the Beatles is the "Revolver". This disc is the germ of what was “Sgt. Pepper”, and I believe, unlike Alberto, that the musical influence of these two discs has been tremendous.

It seems illogical that there is not included any of the black parents of the rock, like Chuck Berry or Little Richard.

Certainly Janis is missing, it influences of many later singers.

The inclusion of Spice Girls or Michael Jackson I suppose that it owes to his character of commercial phenomenon.

In the field of the jazz, they have included “Kind of Blue”, but they forgot of “In to silent way”, also of Thousands, origin of the whole style jazz - rock.

Anyway, quite very debatable, that is the entertaining thing :)

That the following one spends …

Of doing and to which the absences do not escape … this way do I lack a complex list Queen, in agreement since with Alberto A-P (if we speak about influences … let's observe the effect of “We will rock you” or “We plow the champions” in the sport world king … tb “I want it all” … and what to say about the multiversionada “Bohemian Rapshody“?) … I lack New Order (fundamental to understand our electronic musical panorama) … I lack also Sid Vicious and his “Sex pistols”, that they represented an influential breach with regard to the previous simfonismo in 70's.
podríemos to discuss infinity of groups but … THE SPICE GIRLS!?!?! … me do not fuck …!!

it seems to me that this hole repersenta a danger in the future for the city.

I believe that the whole list is more that hit, they all have marked a milestone in the history, although it is for discs, since with songs I believe that there are others that influenced much more. So much Michael Jackson, as spice girls, singers who do not displease me, I believe that also they marked history, for much that finds it hard to him to believe the persons, still after many years, they keep on listening to his songs in half a world, have sold million copies, and I still see girls, with T-shirts although they are of trapillo, of walking on house, of spice girls and michael. Now when prevee the Jackson return and spice, although I believe that his moment was good, and nice, I believe that it will be ephemeral, since a return after everything, it is useless, but it is possible that it is, like raisin with many, artitas, that they return with renewed energies. And let's stop already, criminalizing to spice girls, because the one who has not danced the Wannabe, and the one who does not know the refrain. A greeting.

    the list is quite superficial
and where triple of the history is 1mer. this disc q sold millions x the whole world. and q this disc was 6veces a world platinum. q they are influential as cualkier disc of the beatles … but they know which is. we are lost (it belongs to george harrison)

since from my point of view, they all are well, but if they did not put to MADONNA in any place qe eyelets, MADONNA is the icon of pop, it revolutionized completely the world of the spectacle, and she is the woman with more discs sold in the history, with about 275 millions in the whole world, it is an influence for many, and she is a model to be continued for all the artists of plastic … really I believe qe MADONNA should be in the list.

  12. yoshua on On Saturday, the 22nd September, 2007 at 5:46 pm

    Why is not Sex pistols????

  13. artenoise on On Sunday, the 16th December, 2007 at 11:36 am

  14. rocker on On Friday, the 21st December, 2007 at 3:03 am

credit, absence, pink floyd, metallica, and the spice girls that do there, this is an alone TV/radio commercial

  15. AGL on On Sunday, the 3rd February, 2008 at 11:33 pm

I believe that in this list I am missing, Baby One More Time (l999) of Britney Spears, since she revolutionized the way of doing pop music at present, this disc turned in most sold into the whole world in this year, and britney to sold close to 100,000,000 of discs along his career (9 years) and she is the adolescent that more discs to sold in this decade, and his song Baby One More Steals one turned into the best song of the years nonsales and numbered 1 in several countries.

  16. patinvolador on On Sunday, the 13th April, 2008 at 11:54 pm

Not to put a queen disc between the most influential, is something illogical, if to what we center it is to be influential, I believe that Queen deserves at least a disc in this list

  17. Miguel Angel on On Tuesday, the 13th May, 2008 at 3:59 pm

You lack the disc of Van Halen where the song Jump appears, since, Edward Van they pull change the style of touching the guitar. Also you lack the black album of Metallica that is a discazo.

  18. jaime on On Saturday, the 12th July, 2008 at 3:27 am

hello friend. You lack the saturday night fever the soundtrack and album most sold (after thriller) in the whole history greetings.

  19. Okuda on Thursday, the 2nd October, 2008 at 8:48 am

It makes me happy to see The Clash and Talking Heads in the list.

I believe that there is missing Marquee Moon of Television and Unknown Pleasures of Joy Division, two álbumes that now they are still doing echo in the world music …

And yes … and it would not include Spice Girls … in fact, that one inclusion is unworthy very much of the objectivity of that one ready.

  20. Nico on Tuesday, the 2nd December, 2008 at 11:01 pm

Certainly you have put part of the best groups but you lack in my opinion the most important together with Deep Purple, LED ZEPPELIN! It might say the father of Heavy Metal, of ACDC went out for example!!

  21. cocuo on On Tuesday, the 28th July, 2009 at 10:29 pm

You should add in 1999 “Baby one resides steal” of Britney Spears, since even the experts have accepted that I revolutionize the concept of Pop, creating x the first time an innocent and sensual term at the same time, what turned it into a Super Star. Thank you
